Women continue to bear a heavier burden when it comes to work and family. We often feel we must choose between work and motherhood, with social conditioning encouraging women to put home before career. Caring for a family often means that many work/life conflicts emerge for women. These conflicts can lead to a restriction in career opportunities and advancement. So how can we help ourselves? We need to gain control over work and our identity in the workplace. In order for any organization to retain talented women, they must establish family friendly practices such as flexibility with time, assistance in finding daycare or providing onsite daycare. We should be able to have it all, even if the world makes it hard to do so. As difficult as it is to be both a good mother and successful at your job it can be done. The more women fight the stereotype that we have to choose, the easier having both should be to achieve.
